Why Emma Watson is a Feminist Role Model

Why Emma Watson is a Feminist Role Model

Why Emma Watson is a Feminist Role Model Emma Watson is a feminist role model. She is the reason I’m proud to call myself a feminist. The word ‘feminist’ has become synonymous with ‘man-hating’ in recent years. She called herself a feminist in her speech at the United Nations event for the HeForShe campaign. As a result feminism got a much-needed boost. Acting Career Emma Watson shot to fame as a child actor for her role as Hermione Granger in…

Sexism in Disney’s The Jungle Book

Sexism in Disney’s The Jungle Book

I was recently horrified to find some really blatant sexism in Disney’s The Jungle Book (1967). It is widely accepted that the traditional Disney Princess films are sexist. In most Disney Princess films, not the more recent, a male character saves a female character from distress. In a bid to avoid exposing ragamuffin to such obvious misogyny I turned to an alternative animated Disney film, The Jungle Book (1967). What I discovered was a more subtle form of sexism than…

7 Empowering Feminist Quotes for Girls

Feminism is a great passion of mine (incase you couldn’t tell). I have compiled a list of my favourite 7 empowering feminist quotes. Don’t feel stupid if you don’t like whate everyone else pretends to love – Emma Watson First up on the list of my favourite empowering feminist quotes is Emma Watson. The Harry Potter films and books were a huge part of my teen years; I almost feel like I grew up with Emma / Hermione (her character…

John Lewis are to Recognize Kids as Individuals – How Dare They?

John Lewis are to recognize kids as individuals! Finally, a high-street brand has seen children for what they are, real people – not just a set of genitals. Hurrah! So What is Happening? John Lewis will now be labelling kids clothes with ‘boys & girls’ rather than ‘boys’ or ‘girls’. They will now also have one big section for kids clothes in store. Nothing more, nothing less. They won’t stop selling clothes in styles traditionally worn only by boys or…

Taylor Swift Groping Case – Victory for All Women

Taylor Swift Groping Case – Victory for All Women

I watched the Taylor Swift groping case with great interest. Here was a woman in the public eye bringing a man to task over a sexual assault. I was interested to see how it would play out with equality being a hot topic in the USA currently. The Case In June 2013 Taylor Swift was at a meet and greet event at one of her shows. She posed for a photo with radio DJ David Mueller and his then girlfriend….

A Visit to Whipsnade Zoo with a Toddler

A Visit to Whipsnade Zoo with a Toddler

Recently took a visit to Whipsnade Zoo with a toddler. Ragamuffin loves going to see animals; our two most visited places in our spare time are Wentworth Family Farm and Yorkshire Wildlife Park. It is a huge site; we clocked up 18000+ steps and didn’t see everything. We arrived at 10am and left at 4pm having not been into the butterfly house or the Lemur enclosure. I really liked that wallabies are allowed to roam freely around the zoo too….

Sexism Within Clarks’ Girl Shoes Collection Matters

Sexism Within Clarks’ Girl Shoes Collection Matters

Sexism within Clarks’ girl shoes collection has gained a lot of media attention recently. This is a deep rooted problem within society that goes beyond shoes. The ‘Dolly Babe’ In 2017 you don’t expect to find discrimination as obvious as the recently publicised sexism within Clarks’ girl shoes collection. I was horrified to read that Clarks had actually had named one of their girls’ styles ‘Dolly Babe’. What made it worse was that the equivalent shoe in their boys’ collection was…

Church Farm in Stow Bardolph

Church Farm in Stow Bardolph

Recently we visited Church Farm in Stow Bardolph while we were on holiday in Norfolk. We were only looking to kill a couple of hours before heading back to our caravan for lunch followed by an afternoon at the beach, weather permitting. We got much more than we’d bargained for. Indoor Play Area There were a few grey clouds around, so we decided to visit Church Farm in Stow Bardolph because of the indoor play area. We were expecting basic…

Coping When Your Child Refuses Medicine

Coping When Your Child Refuses Medicine

For me, the worst part of being a parent is that my child refuses medicine. It’s never a walk in the park when they’re ill, but when your child refuses medicine, it piles on the stress and worry. I’ve had many sleepless nights worrying that ragamuffin will build up resistance to antibiotics. I know that no child likes to take medicine but most parents manage to get it into their children somehow. I hear stories of techniques other parents use…
