Slate Night Before Christmas Sign – Review

Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year. If it weren’t for the longer, darker nights it would be my favourite part of the year. Hands down.

I love the decorations, wrapping presents but most of all I love spending time with my family. This is the only time of year when my employers down tools and my holidays have to coincide with daddy’s school holidays.

Slate Night Before Christmas Sign

Decorating the house is when Christmas officially starts in the ragamuffin household. So I was delighted when The House Nameplate Company sent me this cute slate Night Before Christmas sign.

Image of a slate sign etched in white with the quote The stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hope that St Nicholas soon would be there. There are several etchings of snowflaes around the text, and above the text is an etched picture of a mantlepiece decorated with holly, a candle and three Christmas stockings. Inscription

The poem, ‘The Night Before Christmas‘ is known worldwide and is I think, synonymous with Christmas. Just hearing the words ‘Twas the night before Christmas’ makes me feel really festive.

I was given a choice of signs and this was the one that stood out. Engraved with the words ‘The Stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hope that St Nicholas soon would be there’ below a picture of a mantlepiece decorated with a candle, stockings and holly, it screams Christmas to me. There are also etchings of snowflakes in different shapes and sizes around the text too. I can’t wait to hang it up with the rest of our decorations!

The inscription on the sign is in white against the natural black of the slate. Normally, I’m not into monochrome but the quote and the pictures etched onto the slate together just really work for me.

Dimensions

The slate Night Before Christmas sign measures 25cm by 17.5cm, and is 0.4 cm deep. When first I saw it in the box I was worried that it might be a bit heavy to hang indoors but it feels quite light to hold. The thickness of the slate was also a slight concern. I thought it might be a bit bulky compared to our other decorations. Once I hung it up it looked great and you don’t notice the thickness of the slate at all.

It’s hung with jute rope which feels very hard wearing, and I’m confident that it’s sturdy enough to hold the sign. When hung, the peak of the rope to the bottom of the sign measures 36cm.

Verdict

All in all I think that this slate Night Before Christmas sign would make a great addition to any home this Christmas. We don’t have any other slate decorations so this is going to be a unique addition this year. Normally I prefer decorations in red, green and gold but the monochrome of this slate Night Before Christmas sign really appeals to me.

There are candy canes placed on either side of the sing and 8 gold chocolate coins placed above and below the sign. Above the image is the text 'Slate Night Before Christmas Sign - Review' in pink writing against a bright green background.
